LibreLinkUp1,4 is a free mobile app that allows family, friends, and caregivers to receive glucose data from Connections who use a FreeStyle Libre2,3 app with a FreeStyle Libre sensor.
Once you have installed the LibreLinkUp app and accepted an invitation from a FreeStyle Libre app user to connect, you will receive their glucose data on your smartphone.
LibreLinkUp users who are following Connections that are using FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 system sensors and a FreeStyle Libre app can also receive glucose alarm data and notifications5, 6, 7.
The FreeStyle Libre app is designed to be used by people with diabetes to carry out routine glucose monitoring using a smartphone and a FreeStyle Libre sensor .
The LibreLinkUp app is designed to be used by family, friends, and caregivers. The app enables them to receive glucose data or glucose alarms on their smartphone. The LibreLinkUp app cannot be used to scan FreeStyle Libre sensors.
The LibreLinkUp app should not be used for treatment or dosing decisions. Consult the glucose monitoring system and/or a healthcare professional before making treatment decisions.
The LibreLinkUp app is NOT intended to be used in a clinical setting nor by clinicians to monitor their patients.
Users ages 18+, or such other age as local law defines as an adult, can create an account in the LibreLinkUp app.
When the FreeStyle Libre app receives glucose data from the FreeStyle Libre sensor, it transmits the glucose data to the LibreView cloud. The FreeStyle Libre app allows the FreeStyle Libre user to invite family, friends, and caregivers to receive glucose data. These family, friends, and caregivers can install the LibreLinkUp app on their phone, accept the sharing invitation, and then view glucose data and receive glucose notifications from their Connections.
The LibreLinkUp app allows caregivers to connect with up to twenty (20) FreeStyle Libre app users. Likewise, FreeStyle Libre app users can share glucose data with up to twenty (20) LibreLinkUp app users.
You can view your Connection’s latest glucose reading and trend arrow, which shows the direction the glucose is heading.
For LibreLinkUp users who are following Connections that are using FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensors and a FreeStyle Libre app, you can also receive shared glucose alarm notifications whenever your Connection receives a glucose alarm.
For LibreLinkUp users who are following Connections that are using FreeStyle Libre 3 system sensors and a FreeStyle Libre app, you can also receive LibreLinkUp-set glucose alarm notifications based on your Connection’s glucose readings.
All LibreLinkUp users will not receive:
If you are following Connections that are using FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 system sensors will also NOT receive:
Signal loss alarm notifications (whenever your Connection loses signal with their FreeStyle Libre sensor)
It depends on several factors, including the Internet connectivity and network speed of both the FreeStyle Libre app user and the LibreLinkUp app user. With Internet connectivity in place for both users, LibreLinkUp app users generally see glucose data from their Connections within seconds.
You will receive glucose data every time your Connection scans their FreeStyle Libre or FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensor successfully with their FreeStyle Libre mobile app.
However, if your Connection scans their FreeStyle Libre or FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensor with a FreeStyle Libre reader instead of their smartphone, you will not receive glucose data from that scan. The FreeStyle Libre readers are not Internet-enabled devices and cannot be used to share glucose data in this way.
If your Connection is using a FreeStyle Libre 3 system sensor or FreeStyle Libre Select sensor, you will receive glucose data from your Connection if their FreeStyle Libre 3 system sensor or FreeStyle Libre Select sensor is in Bluetooth range of their FreeStyle Libre 3 app.
You can see the last 12 hours of history of your Connection’s glucose data on the main screen of the LibreLinkUp app and view scans and glucose alarm events for the last 2 weeks in the Logbook.
The glucose graph in the LibreLinkUp app will be populated with last 12 hours of glucose readings and the last 2 weeks of scans and glucose alarm events in the Logbook . You should only see the latest notification.
"LO" indicates a glucose reading lower than 2.2 mmol/L (40 mg/dL).
"HI" indicates a glucose reading higher than 22.2 mmol/L (400 mg/dL) for FreeStyle Libre 2 users in United States and Canada and 27.8 mmol/L (500 mg/dL) for all other users.
If either of these readings are seen, the Connection should follow the instructions in the glucose monitoring system user manual.
Red indicates a low glucose reading (<70 mg/dL or 3.9 mmol/L).
Orange indicates a high glucose reading (>250mg/dL or 13.9 mmol/L) for FreeStyle Libre 3 users and (>240mg/dL or 13.3 mmol/L) for all other users.
Green indicates readings in your Connection’s target range.
Yellow indicates readings between your Connection’s target range and the high glucose and low glucose thresholds.
The LibreLinkUp app is compatible with many popular Android and iOS smartphones.
